Collingwood Psychotherapy - FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Questions are part of the process. It’s natural to have things you want to understand before beginning therapy. Here are some answers to help you get a feel for how I work and what to expect.
Is psychotherapy covered by insurance?
Psychotherapy is covered by many extended-health benefit plans. If you have insurance you can submit your receipt directly for reimbursement.
Do I need a referral?
You're welcome to reach out on your own. A referral isn't needed to begin. I do also accept referrals from physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health or wellness professionals.
How are sessions offered?
Sessions take place online by video or phone so you can meet from wherever you feel most at ease. As a private practice you can trust on complete confidentiality and privacy.
What if I'm paying privately?
If you're paying out of pocket, psychotherapy fees with a Registered Psychotherapist qualify for the CRA medical expense tax credit and can be claimed on your tax return.
What type of clients do you see?
I work with people who want to understand themselves more deeply and find steadiness through life’s changes and challenges. You might be navigating stress, self-doubt, or a sense of disconnection that’s hard to name. It’s easy to minimize your struggles or tell yourself they're “not serious enough,” especially compared to everything happening in the world. But pain is pain. You matter and what you're carrying matters. You don't have to hold it all alone.
What can therapy help me with?
Therapy offers a chance to better understand yourself by exploring thoughts and emotions we often overlook in daily life. It’s not just for times of crisis. Anyone can benefit. With the support of a therapist, you can process stress, gain clarity, and deepen your connection to yourself.

How can I prepare for my session?
Your session is an important time for you. To make the most of it, find a comfy, private space where you can relax and focus. You might want to have water and tissues nearby, and maybe a notebook handy to jot down any thoughts, insights or questions you'd like to remember.
Therapy, for the most well you.
